Terms of Use

Last updated: August 8, 2026

The software

Roost HQ (the server and web application) is open-source software released under the GNU AGPL-3.0 License. The license text in the source repository (public release coming soon) governs your use of the code. In plain terms: it is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind. You run it at your own risk, and the authors are not liable for any damages arising from its use.

Self-hosting responsibility

Roost HQ is designed to be self-hosted. You are responsible for the server you run it on: securing it, backing up its data, keeping it updated, and complying with any laws that apply to you (including the terms of third-party services you connect, such as Google Calendar).

The mobile apps

The Roost HQ mobile apps connect only to a Roost HQ server that you or your family operate. The apps are provided free of charge, "as is", and without warranty. Availability and correctness of what the apps display depends on your own server.

This website

Content on roosthq.org is provided for general information about the project. Don't abuse the contact form (spam, unlawful content, attempts to disrupt the service); we may block abusive traffic.

Trademarks & branding

"Roost HQ" and the pixel-owl mark identify this project. You may use them to refer to the project truthfully (e.g., "powered by Roost HQ"), but not in a way that implies your fork, product, or service is the official one.

Changes

These terms may be updated from time to time; the current version will always be posted here with the date above.
